The restoration is still in process, and therefore I have not yet achieved the end result. Nevertheless, there are certain elements which I have restored, and I present them here to show the progress as "BEFORE" and "AFTER" photographs.
Here are the coaming mounted winches, one of which I have polished. They are really pretty, but alas, it is a temporary condition because I don't intend to spend much time keeping them polished. I considered applying a clear coat, but that only delays the tarnish and makes any subsequent polishing all the more difficult.
A really dramatic improvement was with the portlights. This was difficult and dirty work, but the result is rewarding. It was surprisingly difficult to remove the cloudy film on the glass. I finally succeeded by using Mother's Metal Polish, of all things. Yes, there really is glass in the "AFTER" portlight.
Something as mundane as a bronze hinge takes on a much more refined look with the application of a little polish and a lot of elbow grease.
I was pleased with how well the stainless steel stanchions and rails cleaned up. Mother's Metal Polish and a buffing wheel did the job.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not share with all of you my secret ingredient for success. This makes the application of "elbow grease" much less torturous.
